Ascending Symmetry: converging staircase lines at Macy’s in Chicago, formerly Marshall Field’s, photographed in black and white.

Ascending Symmetry

In Ascending Symmetry, the staircase at Macy’s in Chicago, formerly Marshall Field’s, becomes a study of converging lines and repeated steps. I use black and white to draw attention to the V-shaped arrangement and the shadows between levels. The result sits between a recognizable interior and an abstract pattern, suited to a contemporary room that calls for structure and contrast.
